MAJOR WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT IN STANTON (Press Release)
South Staffs Water is investing over £2 million to improve the supply of tap water to the east of Burton upon Trent by replacing over 5km of a large water main over the next 3 months. Most of the work will be carried out in farmland, between Overseal and Stanton. In particular work is starting this Friday, 17th August outside Stanton Village Hall, which will require traffic control.
Mike Turrell, South Staffs Water’s Director of Water Quality explained, "This investment will help to improve the reliability and overall quality of tap water supplied to our customers. By replacing this old asset we should reduce the risk of bursts and leaks in the area, which benefits everyone".
All the traffic control plans have been agreed with the highway authority, and every effort will be made to minimise disruption.
Mike Turrell added, "We are confident that the long term benefits of this investment will outweigh any short term traffic inconvenience, which will be kept to the absolute minimum. Our customers tell us it is very important that they have a reliable water supply and this is what we intend to provide by making this substantial investment in the Burton area".
The scheme is part of a £35 million investment in replacement of water pipes over a 5-year period in South Staffs Water’s area of supply. During the next 5 years the Company plans to replace over 350 km of mains.
