Should temporary access be required to the SSW mains network, provision is made for the hire of standpipes specifically for this purpose. Applicants are reminded that it is an offence under Section 174 of the Water Act 1991 to make any connection to the network without prior authorisation and agreement and can attract a fine of up to £1,000 for each infringement together with the confiscation of any equipment used for this purpose.

Requests and Issue of Stand Pipes
The control, issue and return of this type of equipment will be managed through Central Stores, Green Lane, Walsall. Tel. 01922 638282, during normal working days, 8.00 am – 3.00 pm Mon to Fri.
Access Points
In accordance with the Hire Agreement we shall enforce the requirement for each user to state the intended location(s) and the purpose of hire for the duration to which license exists. Users who hire the larger 40mm standpipes must be in a position to declare the specific area in which they intend to operate in order that SSW may allocate a number of extraction points suitable for that purpose.
Training and Awareness
Users of 40mm standpipes shall also make available either a nominated person as their representative or the actual user of the equipment to undergo a training and awareness session, a record of this session will be maintained by SSW.
Charging Rates as from 1st April 2008
All units attract a non-refundable administration charge of £51.00.
20mm units are hired at a cost of £51.00 week + VAT together with a refundable deposit of £260.00 but with no volumetric charge or restriction over use. Multi annual agreements are available at £45.00 week + VAT.
40mm units are hired at a cost of £314.00 week + VAT, with the exception of multi annual agreements where the cost is reduced to £186.00 week + VAT, again with no volumetric charge.
All 40mm units attract a refundable deposit of £483.00
Any units hired for a period of twelve months or more are to be returned for inspection and calibration at a cost of £51.00 per unit.
