Blithfield Reservoir
Set in rural Staffordshire Blithfield Reservoir provides a stunning visual aspect in a particularly picturesque landscape. Since its opening in 1953 the reservoir has become a haven for wildlife, particularly birds, a fact that was recognised in 1988 when the reservoir and most of its surrounding woodland was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, (SSSI).
Despite being a water source first and foremost, the reservoir also offers a range of recreational and educational opportunities to people from all walks of life.
Recreational opportunities are offered through membership of the reservoir's user group clubs. For example, Blithfield Anglers provide the facility for fly-fishing on the reservoir, their catches including excellent Rainbow Trout that are bred onsite at the Company's trout farm.

Blithfield Sailing Club provides facilities for both young and old alike to enjoy the pleasure of taking to the open water and exploring the southern lake in sailing boats. The West Midlands Bird Club offers permits that enable people to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the reservoir margins as they observe the abundance of birdlife that frequents the reservoir, including some rare visitors such as Little Egrets and the occasional Osprey.
The Company's Education Centre, located between the two arms of the reservoir, provides excellent opportunities for children and adults to learn all about water and the environment. Hence, pre-booked groups are able to take part in a range of activities including pond dipping, hunting for mini-beasts, nature trails, birdwatching and a host of other activities. Set in picturesque, broadleaf woodland, Blithfield Education Centre also offers an excellent venue for meetings, training events, and seminars both inhouse and for external customers.
As a result of these provisions, many communities are able to take advantage of this outstanding facility be it for a weekend picnic in the public zones at each end of the causeway or for some serious study on environmental science or other topic at the Education Centre.
In essence Blithfield Reservoir offers a focal point in the heart of the Staffordshire Countryside where people can learn and enjoy the local area and develop their knowledge and skills in a range of recreational and educational activities.
