Water Safety
Reservoirs can seem very inviting places particularly on hot days. South Staffs Water has reservoirs at Blithfield and Chelmarsh and whilst they are lovely places to enjoy nature and the environment, please remember never to swim in the reservoir.
Spot the Dangers
Check the weather forecast for the day and go equipped for the conditions i.e. correct footwear, coats. Check out the area when you arrive. Check out where the points of help are, look for safety information and advice.
Take note of Safety Advice
Notices are situated around Blithfield and Chelmarsh Reservoirs to warn of dangers particular to the area. Know what the signs mean and please abide by them, they are erected for a reason (To protect your health and keep you safe whilst on site).
A Responsible Adult Must Accompany Children
An adult should always accompany children; children must not be by themselves. Before allowing children to explore or play in the area, point out the dangers and explain where they are allowed to go and where they are not.
Learn How to Help
You may be able to help yourself and others if you know what to do in an emergency. Always get help, shout for help and send someone to ring 999. Do not jump into water to rescue someone. A drowning person may be very strong and pull you under the water as well, if it is too dangerous to help, leave the rescue to the emergency services.
