WaterAid – water for life The UK’s only major charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people.

South Staffs Water has actively been involved in raising money for its principle charity WaterAid since it was created in 1981. WaterAid is an international non-governmental organisation dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people.
These most basic services are essential to life; without them vulnerable communities are trapped in the stranglehold of disease and poverty. They work by helping local organisations set up low cost, sustainable projects using appropriate technology that can be managed by the community itself.
They also seek to influence the policies of other key organisations, such as governments, to secure and protect the right of poor people to safe, affordable water and sanitation services.
Throughout the year South Staffs Water organise events such as Company Fun Days, Celebrity Dinners and Monte Carlo Casino Nights for our staff and contractors to attend as well as entering teams for events organised by other companies for WaterAid, such as sponsored fishing competitions and quiz nights. In addition our employees have organised their own events such as furniture sales, phone sales, raffles and Table Top sales of unwanted Christmas presents. Our staff and retired employees also participate in a WaterAid monthly lottery.
Our customers are invited to make regular donations to support this worthy charity through customer appeal leaflets which are included with water bills. In addition when customers move house or close their accounts our call center staff invite them to donate the residual of the account to WaterAid.
For 2006/07 our owners, Arcapita, have generously offered to double match every pound raised by South Staffs Water, so for every £1 raised WaterAid benefit to the tune of £3.
Just £15 gives a person access to clean water and sanitation for life!
Having worked in partnership with WaterAid for the last 25 years, we are committed to continuing our support of this industry recognised charity, and will continue to pursue the development of ever-more innovative activities to assist WaterAid in the future.
This current financial year South Staffs Water is on target to raise in the region of £50,000 for WaterAid thanks to support from staff, customers, our owners Arcapita and contract companies.
