




The Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) 2004 came into force on January 1st, 2005 and applies to public authorities. Public authorities are required by these Regulations to provide information on a wide range of environmental issues, to anyone making a request.
On March 12th, 2010, The Information Commissioner's Officer ruled under reference FER0265082 that water companies such as South Staffs Water are not public authorities for the purposes of these Regulations. The details of that decision can be found in the
Commissioner's letter.
On November 23rd, 2010, a decision by the Upper Tribunal confirmed that water companies such as South Staffordshire Water are not public authorities for the purposes of the Environmental Information Regulations.
In spite of this ruling, South Staffs Water recognises that the environmental information we hold may be of interest to a wide range of people. We already publish a large amount of information through our website and we will continue to consider requests for information on a voluntary basis and will endeavour to provide relevant information where appropriate and reasonable.
