Recreation

We offer a variety of recreational activities at our sites, in particular at Blithfield and Chelmarsh reservoirs.

Blithfield Walks

The area was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1987 in recognition of its national importance as a habitat for wildfowl, in particular goosander, widgeon and a wide variety of over-wintering fowl. By providing permissive walks and viewing facilities, we hope visitors will share in seeing the varied range of wildlife that is to be found here.

There are three walks open to the public, taking in a wildflower meadow, ancient semi-natural woodland and the reservoir shoreline. The walks are of varying lengths, including one which is partly suitable for wheelchairs.

During the walks you will have the opportunity to watch birds from hides or see them dining at feeding stations. Facilities include free parking and a toilet. You may take dogs, but please keep them on leads and clear up after them. Opening times are subject to alteration depending on time of year, with notices posted accordingly.

Blithfield Anglers

The reservoir offers over 11 miles of superb bank trout fishing, as well as excellent 'top of the water' sport from a fleet of 42 powered boats. In addition to being a popular site in the Midlands for fly fishing, Blithfield also offers high quality pike fishing at specific times of the year.

Fishing is available through either day tickets purchased at the fishery, or by annual membership of the club. Blithfield Anglers are offered exclusive member benefits, such as discounted boat hire, a generous catch limit, three free guest tickets and exclusive fishing in the Northern Lake from the start of the season until the end of April.

Blithfield Sailing Club

Members of the Sailing Club are regularly out on the water. The club caters for both junior and adult sailors, alongside experienced dinghy racers and windsurfers. Training programmes are also available.

At Chelmarsh, coarse fishing, sailing, bird watching and walking are all popular activities, while Crumpwood offers bird watching and both fly and coarse fishing. For more information about activities at Blithfield, please click on the links on the right.
