Save money, whether or not you are on a meter.
You can save money whether you're metered or not. Metering is the fairest way to pay for what you use. By reducing waste you save on both your clean water and foul water charges.
If your water supply is metered you only pay for what you use. The less water you use, the less money you pay. It’s that simple; using less water will have an immediate affect upon your next water bill.
If your water supply is not metered, you will be one of the 85% of households who have a fixed annual charge, then you too can benefit financially, although the effect won’t be quite so immediate or obvious.
By using less water, the Company doesn’t need to treat and pump so much water, so less money needs to be spent on energy, chemicals and on additional reservoirs or boreholes in the future. If we spend less, then this helps keep your water bills down. An additional benefit is that this will help to reduce the amount of energy and chemicals used in the treatment and pumping of water.
Reducing waste in your home or business means that we reduce the amount of water that has to be treated or that uses energy unnecessarily. Water that goes straight down the drain without being properly used is a waste and is costly to you, the environment and the Company.
A garden hose or sprinkler can use almost as much water in an hour as an average family of four uses in one day.
One dripping tap can use at least 5,500 litres of water a year.
If you want to control how much you spend on your water, then nothing beats having a water meter installed. Installation is usually free and, if you then decide you don’t like being on a water meter, you can ask to go back to the fixed charge, providing you do so within the first year.
