Should I pay VAT on my water bill?
VAT is not payable on household (domestic) customer bills.
Not all commercial customers are charged VAT on water charges. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) determines the types of businesses that are charged standard rate VAT based on the Standard Industrial Classification Code (SIC code).
This usually applies to businesses involved in manufacturing, engineering and construction processes.
