Bogus callers & your safety

More than half of "Bogus Caller" crimes committed in the UK are carried out by criminals pretending to be from a water company.

The following will help keep your home safe from this kind of crime, along with details of our Bogus Caller scheme that offers extra peace of mind.

  • How can I protect my home from bogus callers?
  • All of our employees carry photo identity cards. These cards will always be produced when calling at a customer's home.
  • If you have any doubts you can call us on 0800 389 10 11 and tell us the number on the front of their ID card. We will use this to verify the caller's name and the reason for their visit.
  • For added peace of mind, you can also register for our password scheme by using the online form 'Register a password' on the right.

Front door safety

Always be aware that if you get any callers to your door, you should follow these steps:

1. STOP

Are you expecting anybody?

Do they have an appointment?

2. CHAIN

Secure your door bar or chain before opening your door

3. CHECK

Ask for a double-check of the caller's ID

IMPORTANT

If the caller uses the term 'Water Board' do not let this person in because South Staffs Water employees do not use this phrase.

If you are suspicious you should call the Police or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Call 999 if someone tries to force their way into your home.

How do I register for the password scheme?

You can use the 'Register a password' online form on the right. Alternatively, you can download the form 'Our Commitment to You' that also contains this form, and send it to us in the post. Please remember to complete both sides of the printed registration form.

If you prefer, you can telephone our contact centre on 0845 60 70 456.

You may wish to write down your password and keep it safe.
