Home water filters

  • Should I get a home water filter?
  • We supply drinking water to a very high standard and it is subjected to strict testing and monitoring. However, some people prefer to remove the slight traces of chlorine which are added to the water to maintain the bacteriological quality during its journey to your tap, ensuring that it is safe to drink.
  • Some filters also reduce temporary hardness in the water which can cause scale build up in kettles.
  • What types of filter are available?
  • There are several types. Some are jug filters or some can be plumbed into the mains supply.
  • With all types of filter, you should follow the manufacturer's instructions.
  • What problems can occur with water filters?
  • Jug filters can remove the chlorine from the water allowing the growth of micro-organisms, such as algae and bacteria. The filter has a limited capacity and once this capacity has been reached, absorbed substances can be released into the water in a more concentrated form. It is important that the filter cartridges are changed regularly according to the manufacturer's instructions. It is best that the filter is stored in a fridge and the water should be discarded after 24 hours.
