How does it work?

The Assure - Essential Saver tariff offers you a 60% discount on your 'essential' water usage. But what is your 'essential' usage?

Your water bill is made up of:

  • your water charge - the water you use supplied by us
  • your wastewater charge - charges for used water and surface water drainage collected on behalf of Severn Trent

You will see this on the first page of your bill.

On this tariff, we split the water you use as part of 'your water charge' into two parts: your essential water usage and your non-essential water usage.

We then apply a 60% discount to your essential water usage as part of your water charge.

Your essential water usage is an eligible quantity of water used for showering, washing, drinking and cooking - typical everyday activities. This has been worked out depending on your household size and using insight on the average amount of water households in the UK use for typical everyday activities.

Daily essential water usage amounts for households

Please note, your standing charge, which is part of your water charge, will remain the same and will not be affected by the discount. The discount does not apply to your wastewater charge, so that will also remain the same.

Would I be better off on this tariff?

We understand that no two days are the same, and your water use may increase from time to time. But,  by being on this tariff, even if you keep your water use the same as it is now, you will still save money. If you can reduce the amount of water you use, then you will save even more!

For example, if you live in a household of four people, you will receive a 60% discount on the water you use up to 300 litres per day. Any water you use over the discounted amount will be charged at your normal metered rate. So, if you used 556 litres of water per day, you will receive a 60% discount on the 300 litres used, and you will only be charged at your usual metered rate for the 256 litres you used over your 'essential usage'.
What happens when I am on the tariff?

After you have successfully been put on the tariff, we will notify you and send a welcome pack to explain how the tariff will work.
