Water main renewal, Birmingham Road, West Bromwich

As part of its on-going improvement programme, South Staffs Water is carrying out work on Birmingham Road, West Bromwich to renew the water mains.

The work – which will take place between Colliery Road and Halfords Lane will begin on Monday 20 June 2016 and is scheduled to be complete by Sunday 17 July 2016.

To complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible a number of traffic management measures will be in place, including lane closures and diversions.

Birmingham Road

Lane closures will be in place along Birmingham Road for the duration of the works.

Motorists are advised to avoid the road where possible, especially during peak times, and allow extra time for their journey.

Colliery Road

Vehicles travelling from the M5 junction will be unable to access Colliery Road from Birmingham Road.

Advance warning signs will divert traffic via Kendrick Way and Doranda Way to Colliery Road.

Any vehicle exiting Colliery Road will be unable to make the right turn into Birmingham Road toward Birmingham.

They will be directed to make a left turn toward West Bromwich where they can make their way round the M5 junction roundabout and then back down Birmingham Road toward Birmingham.

Halfords Lane

Vehicles exiting Halfords Lane will not be able to make the left turn in Birmingham Road toward West Bromwich.

They will be directed to make a right turn to the A4040 junction where they can make their way around the island and then back down Birmingham Road toward West Bromwich.

Other service roads

There will be no right turn from service roads (heading towards Birmingham) onto Birmingham Road

Allied Bakeries

Vehicles exiting Allied Bakeries will not be able to make the right turn in Birmingham Road toward West Bromwich. They will be directed to make a left turn to the A4040 junction where they can make their way around the roundabout and then back down Birmingham Road toward West Bromwich.

Bus stops

For safety reasons, the bus stop outside Topps Tiles will be suspended throughout the first phase of works. The nearest alternative bus stops are located opposite McDonald’s Restaurant (approx. distance 400m) and near the footbridge (approx. distance 300m)

“Ultimately, we hope these works will provide high quality reliable water supplies – not just for customer along Birmingham Road now, but also for future generations.”
