Regulations

The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 are national requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems, water fittings and water-using appliances to prevent contamination of drinking water.
The regulations apply to owners and occupiers, and anyone who installs or maintains plumbing systems and water fittings to protect public health and promote sensible and efficient use of water.

As a water supplier, we have a legal duty to enforce the regulations within our supply area.

To enable us to effectively enforce these regulations, installers, architects, designers, developers, plumbers, and contractors should be aware of them and the need to notify us in advance for certain types of plumbing work.

Notify us of an installation

You will need to notify us in writing and, for certain types of installation, provide a plan and a diagram of the pipework. 

InstallationYou should ensure that the person or company you employ is aware of the regulations and will carry out works which comply with them.

You can employ a WaterSafe-approved plumber who will be familiar with the regulations.
