Motorists using Birmingham Road reminded to expect delays

Motorists heading along Birmingham Road near to the M5 junction are being reminded to expect delays during peak periods over the next few days.

South Staffs Water is renewing the water mains along the road as part of a month long improvement programme.

Two of the three westbound lanes which lead onto the M5, will be closed until Sunday morning. The work will then transfer to the eastbound carriageway, where it may affect motorists travelling in the direction of Birmingham at the beginning of the week.

All works are anticipated to be complete by Friday 9 July.

A spokesperson for South Staffs Water, said: “Unfortunately, we have had no choice but to close the lanes in order for this work to be carried out. We realise this has caused disruption, which was further exacerbated this morning because of a broken down vehicle within the works.

“Advance notice signs have been up for four weeks to notify motorists, and we have been carrying out the work as quickly as possible to minimise the impact. We’re sorry for any inconvenience and advise motorists to seek other routes where possible.

“Ultimately, these works will help provide high quality reliable water supplies – not just for customers along Birmingham Road now, but also for future generations.”

South Staffs Water’s on-site team will be on site during the works to deal with any queries.

Further details of the work, which is scheduled to be completed by 17 July, is available on South Staffs Water’s website www.south-staffs-water.co.uk or call 0800 389 1011.
