We have published our Gender Pay Gap Report for 2023/24 and we can reveal our mean gender pay gap has dropped below the national average of 7.7%.

What is the gender pay gap?

The gender pay gap is the average difference between how much men and women are paid in an organisation for doing the same job. Companies in the UK with over 250 employees are required to declare this data.

We have put together a report looking at that gap, digging into some key facts and figures and, in some places, explaining why the gap is what it is.

What does our report cover?

Some of the key points covered in our report are the average difference between men and women’s hourly and bonus pay, the percentage of men and women in the highest, middle and lowest pay groups here at South Staffs Water and the change from last year.

The water industry is traditionally male-dominated, so we are encouraged by the improvements we have made to lessen our gender pay gap and make all our employees feel welcome and comfortable, no matter who they are.

We are celebrating some real improvements, including our mean gender pay gap dropping below the national average of 7.7%, and we are also still committed to closing our gender pay gap even further.

Andy Willicott, Managing Director of South Staffs Water and Cambridge Water commented: “In what is a traditionally male-dominated sector of the economy, I’m pleased to see the strides we’re making to improve our gender pay gap and provide a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all our people. And while there’s much for us to celebrate – like our mean gender pay gap dropping below the national average of 7.7% – we remain committed to closing our gender pay gap even further.”

What are we doing to close the gap?

Read the report now to learn more about the initiatives we have already implemented and what is coming up in the year ahead, including our newly launched Women’s Network, which provides wide-ranging support and mentorship opportunities, regardless of gender or life stage.
