Open farm event returns to Atkin Farms

Following on from the success of the last open farm event in December 2018, we will be hosting another at Atkin Farms in Uttoxeter on 18 June.

Atkin Farms is one of our official trial farms, which allows us to test new ideas and practices in order to protect the local watercourse and maintain and improve water quality. The farm became involved with us through SPRING2, our Environmental Protection Scheme, that helps farmers explore catchment-friendly land management and discourages the use of traditional slug pesticides in favour of nurturing growth. Under the scheme, farmers in the Blithe catchment will be able to apply for a grant of up to £10,000 per farm.

Further details of the scheme will be provided at our next event, which will feature talks from our catchment team, Rob Atkin, Agrii and the Environment Agency, as well as a tour round a new sprayer wash-down area and biobed. Attendees will also have the chance to learn about water quality, the Agrii Soil Quest and Contour Mapping System and catchment-based approach.
