We are UK Water – celebrating World Toilet Day
Coming soon to a school near you – the water industry's first ever live virtual learning event.
The education teams of 12 water companies across the UK have joined forces to launch, ‘We are UK Water – celebrating World Toilet Day’, a one-of-a-kind online learning event for schools led by industry experts.
Water companies believe it is essential that everyone knows where their water comes from and the industry has well established education programmes, speaking to thousands of people every year about our most precious resource.
To coincide with World Toilet Day on 19 November, which raises awareness of the importance of safe sanitation across the world, there will be a week of water activities for schools, culminating with the live event on Thursday 19 November.
Designed specifically for Key Stage Two pupils, the online event is accompanied by a bespoke resource pack for teachers which includes lots of engaging and cross curricular activities for classes to take part in. From learning about the water cycle to the importance of using water wisely, the content has been designed to support various subject areas across the National Curriculum.
Wednesday: How can you make a difference? From water efficiency to reducing plastic/refill or fatbergs, learn what you can do to help us live sustainably.
Thursday: World Toilet Day. The final session will be a live online event, with a short presentation summary of the week’s activities, followed by a Q&A session.
“Life is pretty different for everybody at the moment and like many other industries this year, because of COVID-19 we’ve had to think differently about how to deliver our important messages. Through our Education Forum water companies already collaborate on many initiatives but we haven’t attempted anything on a nationwide scale before. We hope this event paves the way for more innovation and further supports school at what is a very challenging time for them.”
