Our Assure tariff can help customers who are on a low income; it aims to reduce water poverty and make our bills more affordable.

If you qualify your charges will be discounted for two years, in the first year by 60% and the second year by 40%.

Watersure
If you receive certain income related benefits and if you have a water meter fitted you may be eligible for our WaterSure tariff.

This is a high user tariff which caps how much you pay for your water and sewerage bill.
In addition to receiving certain income related benefits, you must either have:
- Three or more children under the age of 19 living in the household for whom the person receiving benefit also claims child benefit
Or
- Someone living in your household who has a medical condition which means they use a lot of extra water

If you are eligible and your application is successful, your charges will be discounted for two years, in the first year by 60% and the second year by 40%.

You need to be in receipt of one of these income related benefits to qualify for WaterSure:

- Universal Credit
- Income Support
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Child Tax Credit (other than just the family element)

If you are having significant money problems, you may be able to apply to the South Staffs Water Charitable Trust for help towards the cost of your water bill.

The Trust is a registered charity that operates independently of us and aims to help customers who are in need or who are suffering hardship or other distress.

Your difficulties may be because you are:
- In receipt of benefits or have a low income
- Suffering from an illness or disability
- In temporary difficulties, for example, as a result of redundancy
- Experiencing a relationship breakdown or bereavement

The Trust takes applications from people who are:
- In arrears with their water bills (including sewerage services), either for the current year, or from previous years or;
- Who have had a sudden change in their circumstances (for example, redundancy) that may result in a short-term period of hardship.

Only our customers may apply for help.

Priority for help from the Trust will be given to applicants who are willing to make a regular contribution towards the cost of their bill – usually between £1 and £2 a week - depending on weekly disposable income.

If you're struggling financially and are worried about paying your bills, there is a lot of help available from other organisations who can offer support and assistance.

By joining our Priority Services Register you'll be letting us know that you may need extra support.

This could be:

- Hands-on help in an emergency - if we need to turn your water off.
- Help reading or understanding your bill.
- Keeping you safe from bogus callers

Sometimes we may need to turn your water off while we carry out work. 

If you have limited mobility that would stop you from leaving the house to get bottled water during a supply interruption - we will do our best to get water to you.

If you have a medical condition, such as dialysis, that requires a constant supply of water - we will do our best to get water to you as soon as possible, while your water is off.

Our password-protection scheme can help protect you against distraction burglars or ‘bogus callers’.

Set up a password with us and then if anyone visits you stating that they work  for us,  ask them to give you the password before you let them in.

If you have trouble reading or understanding your bill, would like a friend or relative to deal with your account or if you can't read your meter, we can help.

We can arrange for your bill to be sent in:
- braille
- large type
or read out over the phone.

You can also nominate a friend or relative to be the person we deal with for your account.
